Can anyone recommend a good rigger who knows Selden Furlex and Selden in Mast systems in Greece. I have tried the Agent without much success.

Be careful. I was recommended a rigger who knew all about Selden Main Furling system. He sold me a new sail when, some months later, I discovered that there was a locking screw that had come loose, and all that was required was some tightening of the furling gear and locking with the screw.

I would tend to recommend finding as much out about the system yourself - make sure you have the detailed diagrams and know how it all works.

In addition, tell us what the issue is, as someone here may have experienced it before - no point reinventing the wheel.

In the long run, I decided that the new sail helped sell the boat, or at least reduced the negotiation, so all wasn't lost..... But I went from recommending the rigger to warning people off him.

If anyone is thinking of employing a rigger in Malta, I'll warn you off this one by PM if you ask.

Cheers,

Richard

Just a good service as it all needs to be taken apart greased and put back. The Furlex is stiff and the main is catching but never used to.

IIRC there are a number of greasing points on the base and the head of the Furlex. I'm sure squirting the holes full of the appropriate grease, and getting some in down the slot where the rope goes, all the time giving the unit a good working to spread the grease, made a massive difference to mine.

In addition, a good look at the way the furling rope leads, including replacing or relocating some of the pulleys, also made a big improvement.

I don't think you have to go up the mast as the moving parts come down to the deck, IIRC.

DIY on the roller reefing will probably save you a couple of hundred quid, so well worth a look at. I'm sure the manual for both main and genoa will be online

Servicing is a DIY job. Full instructions are in the manuals. The sticky main could be because the mandrel needs tensioning correctly - again full instructions in the manual. Also check for wear on the outhaul sheave. You should have a spare sheave in the end fitting - worth swapping over to see if it makes a difference.
