Yeerbut, she's 20ft wide and was taking up both carriageways.
I hope you meant both lanes of one carriageway :) ... othewise it would have been interesting .. esp for drivers approaching on the other carriageway

Can I turn this into a whereizit competition? :D

A55, heading west, A470 exit.

Correct. But then it says that on the road signs.:D

VicS. Yes I did mean both lanes of one carriageway. It would have got very exciting if he'd been using both carriageways, especially at the speed he was going.

And I thought abnormal loads were usually slow!
I wish I'd seen him negotiating the roundabouts at Penmaenmawr.

Nah, A Mac is gorgeous in comparison, even when motoring.

Searush,

mmm... beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I trust Mrs Searush doesn't resemble that or a Westerly; my girlfriend looks and acts like the Spitfire she was nicknamed after, as I learned !

Also why am I not surprised to see a Macgregor owner setting off with the sail cover still on; well worth a lightning strike for that alone...

He was just off for a blast around to blow the cobwebs off the O/B on the top of the tide. He is on a drying mooring & doesn't get long afloat, plus there was very little wind that day, as you should be able to tell by the sea state.

Looked like fun to me, tho I guess the novelty would soon wear off.

Amongst the things I have overtaken or been overtaken by on the roads of Europe include. A Tornado F3 Fighter, A Steam Locomotive, A Sunderland Flying Boat (in France in a layby in 1965..its the one at Duxford now) and a Comet airliner fuselage.:D

Those are just the ones I remember. That boat is somewhat forgettable..apart from its dimensions.

Umm, just a slight exaggeration, she is actually about 17' (5.2 m.) wide.
She was built by Alnmaritec in Northumberland (who also later built an Oil Spill Response Vessel for our Oil Terminal here) - here is a link to Celtic Storm (second boat down in the list):
http://www.alnmaritec.co.uk/boats/all_boats50.html

'Our' OSRV (ALN 096 - http://www.alnmaritec.co.uk/boats/all_boats90.html) is 5.3 m. overall width, and that extra 10 cm was apparently enough to ban her from being transported by road to Southampton from where she could have gone straight to Barbados on a Geest reefer ship - instead she had to be loaded on a ship in Newcastle and then taken to (I think) Rotterdam where she was trans-shipped and waited a month for her lift across the pond.

I suppose that one would be hard pressed to describe most of Alnmaritec's vessels as being 'pretty', but they are functional for sure, and invariably are good at doing their jobs.
