Nazare, Portugal.

Stay overnight on the fuel dock for free and fill up in the morning.

Peter

When we passed through the fuel dock was operational 24 hours as long as you go to the filling station and prepay, we had to wait some after an overnight trip to get alongside because some one was following your advice.

If you go to You tube and search for surfing Nazarre, you'll see why it is most definitely not an all weather refuge .... Acknowledged as the largest wave ever surfed.

there is a deep water canyon and a very steep bottom a few cables from the shore, imagine what it must be with a big swell

Glad to hear he is still there lovely chap if a bit eccentric. It was the wild dogs there which really put me off... We stayed on the fishing quay in rough weather without a problem on a 45 footer.

Eccentric is the word lol His boat came adrift during the recent storm, all except for one spring and it took me the best part of an hour in full fowelies, LJ and safety harness, to secure her. Wonder if we will get a discount lol

Can see no problem with the fishing quay as long as you have long fender boards.

Even in a small swell its a sight you have to see to fully understand the power of the sea.
In a storm, as last week, the power out there is hard to believe

Amazing picture of the biggest wave ever surfed at Nazare in today's Telegraph!
The Portuguese coast has to be treated with respect!

I agree with you totally but anyone sailing down that coast shouldn't be put off. We did it this year and going into Nazare the sea was pretty flat. The only problem we had (besides Mike) was the amount of fishing pots badly marked next to the entrance.
