Navy gets big boats to play with...

Well, its an ill wind, and all that.

I will probably be employed on the spinning roofracks for those.

At least they have spent the money on a flash piece of gunboat diplomacy rather than squander it on further support for unsupportable causes

I hope the MOD owns a tape measure. The new RN carriers have nearly 3 times the displacement of the current mini carriers. Having watched one of the current generation RN carriers arrive in Portsmouth this year I imagine it will be a tight fit for the next gen ones at the harbour entrance.

Anyhow I predict QHM and other on water law enforcement patrols will be extremely jumpy when one of the larger carriers enters or leaves Portsmouth.

Should Haslar berthholders expect to feel a tidal surge when HMS Queen Elizabeth noses into harbour in 2014?

Just realised that I have yet to sight the harbour patrols keeping us all in the small boat channel this summer. Are we all now so well behaved that they are no longer needed ?

Carriers ordered

Fat lot of use they'll be in Afghanistan, where the PBI are dying because of lack of the right kit.

Strange, that 'cos my son is there and he is in the Navy. You should have seen the kit he was issued with. Bloody heavy, I don't know how they operate carrying all that weight, body armour, kevlar helmet, plus ammo and rifle.

Not a nice sound, is it

Racist agitprop.....

One wonders if the self-proclaimed writer of such offensive stuff would be willing to put his hand deep into his pocket to pay for an entirely Jinglish defence structure? Or put his sorry ass on the line at any point in his miserable and embarrassing existence in the defence of his private home and hearth?

'All mouth and trousers', eh?

Why should they come anywhere near Portsmouth?

According to the TV news and other internet sources, Portsmouth will be the home port for these full sized carriers.

When the current carriers were being spec'd the navy was told it couldn't have carriers so they got 'through deck cruisers' instead.

so they got 'through deck cruisers'

Indeed. I used the term "full sized carriers" because TV news reporting today has been calling them "enormous" and "giant sized". Not one report has mentioned that the current carriers are half the weight of the Rod Stuart vintage Ark Royal.

Barrow in Furness. That has built all but one of the SSN's All but 1 of the SSBN's and tendered for those carriers years ago. Strange but true.
