That brings back memories. I used to take part in the Whaler racing at Chatham when it was a working dockyard.(do they still do the racing.)

I was in the army team . Our training method was a gentle row up to the Command House Pub have a few beers before another gentle row back.

Not surprisingly we never used to win!

The only racing is now in Basin 2, once a year and its Dragon Boat racing, the Army has won for the last 3 years, if you have not been back for some time you would see a vast difference.

St Mary's Island is vast new housing development with a number of waterside houses and flats, they have even started building new houses in the old dockyard. the Basin opposite Upnor Castle is a new MDL Marina.
