In case you've missed it, there are trials of 'actual weather' reports from Niton 490khz at the moment:

[ QUOTE ]
ENGLAND, SOUTH COAST. TRIAL NAVTEX TRANSMISSIONS FROM NITON ON 490 KHZ WILL
TAKE PLACE 01 JUN TO 31 OCT USING B1 CHARACTER INDIA AND B2 CHARACTER
VICTOR. BROADCASTS CONTAIN ACTUAL WEATHER CONDITIONS AT SELECTED SITES.
CANCEL THIS MESSAGE 081500 UTC JUN 07.

[/ QUOTE ]

So set your Navtex to receive type 'V' reports on 490 and you should get actual weather reports from along the south coast. I'll add one to this message over the weekend - but from memory it gave pressure, wind speed and direction for sure.

Cheers,
Rick

Clive - will report on what I get over the weekend as I can't remember what area it covered. I think the trial is more south-coast as its just being run from Niton. Will report back anyway.

The weather report transmissions actually commenced before they transmitted the announcement you have copied! I'm not sure they are a lot of use other than recording what you might have just been through. However, I guess they are useful at hinting at the possibility of meeting up with fog if nothing else.
