I have been experiencing some problems with my unit. It seems to lock up and freeze at the end of a route or a goto and needs to turned off by the circuit breaker to reset it. On other occasions it has performed a factory reset.

I am on the third display, second aerial and no hair left to tear out.

I know of one other boat that has a similar problem.

The unit is a great piece of kit, and I would really like to keep it. The importers, Plastimo, have been very helpful, but it seems that there is a software problem with these units.

Anyone else had similar problems?

I have a 5500 and really like it, but have had it freeze on three occasions - all in exactly the same location, so I suspect it is some very powerful emission at that locality that is causing the problem (just north of the chain ferry at Cowes)

We have a 5500i with built in GPS and have had no problem at all so far (touch wood) in 12 months of use. Is yours connected to other instruments or is it a standalone, there is a reply in their FAQs that suggests a possible short in unused wires to connect to other instruments.

Have you tried emailing Navman direct? I did when I had a question about user cards and had a reply within hours. My reply came from Darren Coneybear in Product Support dconeybear@navman.com

Hi I have a Navman 5600. I have not experienced your problem but at the weekend the unit kept losing its signal while between Cowes and North Head buoy. Sounds like Talbots problem. On the way back To Fareham from from Studland no problem! So I am keeping an eye on it.

Thanks for your suggestions. We have been right through the entire installation several times. It is certainly a software problem.

I have exchanged emails with Darren Coneybear in the past, on this occasion Plastimo are speaking to him.

Tday, the chap from Plastimo is taking a 5600 out on a rib to see if he can replicate the problem and take a video of it to send to New Zealand.

Just a thought, check the stability of the input voltage. I've had a Navman plotter go down on me because the input voltage dropped too low. Everything else was fine, turned out to be a dodgy joint in a feed wire causing about 1.5V of voltdrop. Being effectively a loose connection it was a total so and so to trace when moored up and fairly static.

A good thought, but we have rewired several times, and tried a feed from different circuit breakers. Also another boat on the same MBM cruise last week has the same problem.
