Does anyone know what the little white cross in a red circle is adorning some of the icons on Navionics? see the Starboard Hand Buoy "9" in screenshot below

I've also seen it on some other icons e.g. marinas

Can't find anything online that explains it!

Put it under the cursor and click on it and it will tell you...... These are marks which appear at high zoom and are marks put in by users usually indicating race marks. You can see who placed them there if you use the cursor and click. I have used this facility as it is very useful for aiding buoy layers to go out and set up a race course and then for the yachts to race the course. I say in the hidden text that these marks are only there on race days. You might find that thge mark disappears in the winter but still on the chart!

If using this facility it is also possible to move the markers when not in use and hide them away somewhere. You just put them back in place when needed. I dont hide mine in MY garage :)

Ah - so this indicates that this icon has been edited by a user?

If I hover over it, it shows as being part of the SHB icon

Looking at the details for the SHB doesn't list anything specific...

Although I have noticed that if I tap on "Edit" it gives me the option to "Undelete".

I wonder if this is an icon that has been 'deleted' by a user? It would be useful if, as you say, they had put notes against the icon.

I will be there next Saturday so I will see if it does indeed still exist!

That's interesting - in the Web view of Navionics it also shows as part of the SHB:

But when I click details it tells me:

Either way - thanks I've learnt something; it looks like the red marker indicates a user-contributed item.

Yes that is how I see it and disguised it as another mark but use it in race directions. This actually is a handy feature which I have used for many years. Our local yacht club has just started using it too so the bay can look cluttered, hence the reason I move some buoys and hide them when not in use. For buoy laying you just go out with buoys and sinkers assembled and motor from location to location dropping the sinkers in the right place. No need for compasses or transits.
