As some of you will have seen before I like a bit of fishing from my yacht. I see navionics platinum + charts are £270 and all I see that you get extra is relief shading which would be very useful for fishing. BUT I seem to have it on my tablet version for less than £25. I would love to have it on my Axiom but the cost is over the top. Can you transfer it , download it . Or am I missing something

I have a gps for my tablet, so can use it like that, but wondering if you get more stuff on the axiom , I doubt it

So. On the boat today gps plug in works for the android tablet but that position doesn't get to navionics chart, I'm no further forward. seems like if you want that detail you have to pay for it..I looked at sas planet but can't find the detail I'm looking for on the uk south coast ....Paa

What tablet do you have ?

What Navionics do you have installed on the Tablet ?

Near all Android tablets have own GPS already internally. If you attach an external GPS - some tablets will need you to set user preference in the settings.

If you are using Navionics :

Navionics® Boating - Apps on Google Play

then this should work even if you don't have subscribed charts ... but as I found - the subscription was low enough (39 euros for all Baltic - even I coughed up the money !).

It's a decent galaxy tab and yes it has its own 'gps' 🤔 the lats and longs aren't the same as the proper one. I pay for navionics so have the relief shading but to get spot on over a structure it would but good to get a fix.

Sorry Billy ... but I am trying to figure out what you are after ...

Basically as you found - Tablet Navionics Tablet charting cannot be transferred to any other machine unless its also a Smartphone or Tablet. I have Navionics Boating and Lakes not only my latest Android Tablet (bought specifically for this ...) as well as on older Android tablet and my Samsung Phone.
The GPS in a tablet should be good enough - far better than hand held GPS of just a few years ago in fact. But in saying that - if you put two GPS side by side - it would only be occasionally that they would read same ... even two identical GPS units will show slightly different results.

Honestly even with SA switched off ... even with WAAS and any other augmented GPS positioning - you are still going to wander a metre or more during use ... the cm precision that some brands quote is B*******t ....... even a Land Surveyor will tell you their machine cannot be that accurate ! That's why they initialize to a marked calibrated spot - well they do over here !!

That sounds very odd. Are you shown in the wrong place (perhaps unlikely with a Samsung) or just the numbers differ - in which case check format not Degrees.decimal rather than Degrees Minutes.decimal.

It's not a big deal but the screen on the axiom is so much better in sunlight and I can't understand how navionics can charge so much for a chart that is a sensible price for a tablet. My subscription is just about to come up and it just seems a bit tight fisted not to include relief shading on platinum +

Am I going to get a good fix miles from land. I'm not sure galaxy 'gps' is all that , seeing as it got lost in my local forest where there is no phone signal.

Something wrong there .... BUT don't forget - dense coverage can affect signal reception .

I see no reason why your Tab should stop working away from land ... phone signal has nothing to do with it ... except when user sets Tab to use augmented GPS. Then it should revert to GPS alone.

But ...in settings you just turn locations on or off . No setting for gps or am I missing something

I don't use Samsung Tabs - so it looks like you have On / Off GPS only. I can buy a higher performance Tablet for less money from Banggood. Some Tablets - similar to some Mobile Phones can give you option to use Augmented or plain GPS. This is to counter reduced GPS signal in high rise dense building areas ...

What I am concerned about is your saying the Galaxy is not good on position ... there should be no reason for that ..its a reputable machine and many users have them - use the GPS facility on them without problem.

I know that's why I'm puzzling it
But as far as I can see you haven't yet explained clearly what your problem is.
Samsung Galaxy tablets have inbuilt GPS and a good reputation. Unless you have a hardware fault, the GPS will work fine offshore with no phone signal. And should show position automatically on the Navionics App.
No need for any external GPS plug in as you implied in #7.
Perhaps if you can explain more clearly your issue folks can help de puzzle you.

OK ... what is the range of difference you are getting between Tab GPS and external Puck ? If its within a metre or so - then its actually normal.... it will fluctuate about real physical position .. and you will not know which is correct unless standing on a Geo Spot created by Geo Surveyors etc.

I have a feeling you may be asking too much of accuracy ...

I will try it . Thanks
