I use Navionics on Hudl and am very happy with it. I may need to buy a Microsoft surface for a work project. As this has a larger screen I'm thinking it may be good for navigation. Is it possible to put Navionics on a surface?

Use OpenCPN

Www. Opencpn. Org

Yes that could be a plan, I have that on my netbook at present. My problem with it is the charts. When I installed it I couldn't find anywhere to buy charts. It would be good to have somewhere to get charts which are updated like the ones for Navionics.
The other question at this stage is are there alternatives to a Surface? I may get away with that for work if I can run Navionics on the boat.

I haven't checked recently but I believe VisitMyHarbour sell UK (only) charts for OpenCPN.

You can try this charting app on your surface. The biggest issue with Microsoft surface is that it lacks GPS receiver. Other than that Vector charts look like really good and performance is super smooth on Surface.

Am I the only person starting to think your resuscitation of several dead threads in order to link to the i-boating app is looking suspiciously like commercial spam?

Hint: this is perhaps an opportune moment to explain your connection, and stop.

Yes you can - I have a Surface Pro and it works well. You do however have to buy AMIDuOS - this then gives you Android on you surface. I have an Android phone so I can run all my Boatie apps such as Navionics, weather apps, RYA SafeTrx, Captains Matesa etc which I have paid for on the Surface Pro as well. For Navionics you can share the tracks, waypoints etc by logging into your Navionics account. It works well.
