And no more accurate than my Android Tablets .... costing less than half the money with GPS as normal included.
We have twin wheels on our boat. When doing really intricate pilotage the iPad - or Android phone- GPS detects me moving from one wheel to the other ! (NB Not using Navionics or Admiralty charts, which are not accurate at detail level)

I dont have android but quite sure your right. I questioned why in a Microsoft store, they told me the set up is identical except for the gps chip which apparently are as cheap as chips...pun intended

As they say - unfortunately - we live and learn.

If anyone wants inexpensive Android tablets with fast processors / reasonable ROM / RAM ... usually dual sim ... all with GPS .... Banggood do a line - Mediatech - blows the socks .. legs and whatsits of Samsung - iPad - you name it ...

I have no connection at all - just a very happy user of them.
I have been a buyer from Banggood for a variety of products, always felt they lived up to their name.
Just checked their tablet range, (couldnt find mediatech) and the descriptions are amazing and the prices even more so.

Medeiatech is often not named ... but on Start-up the name comes up on many BG tabs ... similar to when you start up yor ACER ... DELL .... LENOVO PC ... you get their name come up.

I had one of mine go bad on the mini USB ... gave it to my IT pal as he has all the Air Soldering gear etc. - has changed chips and stuff on various gear of mine. He replaced the USB socket and then ran speed / capability tests .. when he gave it back - he was impressed ...

One aspect that unfortunately affects choice ... Apple has been quite successful in convincing various tech to bias towards iPad for app's ... but that does not mean Abdroid is left behind - far from it as Android developers have more freedom and can basically keep up with it.

Its worth looking through Play Store at Android stuff before going of to iPad and spend money !

I have GPS chips that I can mount to controllers for less than a couple of pints !! In fact I have one in the drawer I was going to add to my VHF DSC radio ... only needs a few wires connected and then stick it corner of window .. but the radio decided to stop working - so now its spare.

It's not about the cost of the hardware, it's about how much profit can be made by restricting access to it. Every smartphone ever made has an FM radio chip but most are disabled to encourage users to buy more data from affiliated companies when listening to the radio. There's a movement in the US to make it a legal requirement to enable all FM chips in preparation for dealing with a surprise gift from Mr. Xi.
