Navionics - Catch 22

I was looking at a nice, small and relatively cheap Android tablet (this one in fact though I have to check whether it has GPS built in) and thought it would be very handy especially as I could use the Navionics Europe app as a backup to my chartplotter. Then I checked the Navionics site, only to discover that their apps only work on phones, and their HD versions only work on tablets. So far so good, but then I found that by tablets they mean ones with 8 inch or larger screens, with no guarantee that either the basic app or the HD app will work on any 7 inch screen device.

Mine works on a Galaxy Tab 7" and Galaxy S2 phone and Nexus phone and Samsung Apollo phone.. Basic version.

Mine works on galaxy s2 and on galaxy tab10.1. Same version. I feel a bit disgusted that they have just tweaked the normal version, slapped an HD logo on it and are charging more.

As long as the tab u get has access to the android market/google play store, u should be able to get either version.

I have navionics on an HP Touchpad Tablet running Android ICS.

This is a 10" Tablet. The tablet does not have GPS as standard but supports Bluetooth so I bought a Vodafone Bluetooth GPS "keyring" from Ebay for £10.

Its the non-HD version but works nicely on the large screen, inlcuding rotating landscape to portrait (but only portrait in settings mode)

Works just fine.

I have the navonics app on my HTC desire smart phone , is it possible to transfer the app to my tablet ( asus transformer ) or will I have to purchase it again ?

I would caution against buying a Chinese tab if intending to use it for a piece of navigation software.
The price is fantastic.
The screens are great.
Build quality is good.
BUT... Google has no licensing agreement in place in China, so the tabs produced there are not recognised by Google Play. You will be able to download hundreds of free useless apps (unless you appreciate Angry Birds - I don't) and some paid-for ones.
Not the ones your need, including Navionics.
Google Play will tell you your device is not recognised.
Don't ask how I know.
I now use Navionics on an HTC Desire phone and on a Samsung Galaxy 7" tab.
Mbay... you will not have to buy the app again to put it on a second device. Just use the same Gmail account used for the HTC to download the app onto your tab.

As long as you have the same google account it is possible. Even without and with a bit of fiddling you can do it. You need to have root access and find the original file and transfer it to the new device.

First off sorry to the op for slight highjack of his thread . Navonics works on my phone but has not updated for months now? It doesn't show in my downloaded apps either ? Iam using the same Google account for both devices but navonics trys to charge me when I go to download the app ......my tablet is not rooted and I don't really want to go down that root either ??

Your problem may be due to the fact the older version of the Navionics app has been discontinued and is no longer available for download.
Following a factory reset on the HTC I was able to re-download the older version of the app, then download again to the tab.
I suspect if I try to do the same now I would be asked to pay another fee.
It is a bit of questionable practice on Navionics' part: expecting punters to pay again for what is effectively a software upgrade.
I know the new version has add-ons including landscape view so I may pay the £20.99 to upgrade... but it wrankles.
