Hi,

Can anyone tell me whether it is possible to use the Navionics boating app with a licence from my Raymarine (Navionics) charts for my chartplotter ? It is possible to have several copies of the charts on eg a desktop and a notebook using Raymarine's Voyage Planner software and I wondered whether this can be extended to using the same charts with Navionics Android App ? Or do I have to pay for an additional licence as it seems to be demanding ?

Thanks,

Boo2

As far as I know, if you're using different machines on the same operating system (eg Android), you can have as many copies of Navonics as you like, provided that all your machines use the same Andriod account details. As soon as you move to a different operating system, (eg IOS) then you'll need to pay for a new licence on the system.

The Navionics Boating app and the Raymarine chartplotter using Navionics chart will need separate purchases/licences.

The chartplotter (ours is an e95) has the charts on a microSD memory card which must be plugged in to the plotter. We also have an iPad with the Navionics Boating app, and the recent update has finally restored the useful (but not perfect) ability of synchronising waypoints and routes between the two, over Wifi. So you can set up a route on the iPad, and then sync it to the chartplotter and the route will appear in the chartplotter. Or vice versa.
There is also a free Raymarine app that allows the iPad to control the chartplotter, over Wifi, so you can sit comfortably wherever on the boat, using the iPad and control the chartplotter. I find that easier when entering waypoints for example, as the iPad keyboard is easier to use than the chartplotter.
But you still need to buy/download both the chartplotter chart on a Navionics microSD AND the Navionics Boating app chart for your portable device...

You'll have to buy the app separately from your Raymarine license -- but once you have it on an apple product, the apple cloud will let you download it onto other iOS hardware without having to pay again (ie you can put it on your phone too). And as zensilence said, Navionics brought back the plotter-sync with Raymarine. So if you make routes or plot waypoints on the app, you can sync them over to plotter.
