I've just been trying to update my Navionics chart, UK and Ireland.
The site won't allow me to login unless I allow third party cookies, which I have blocked on Chrome, because I don't trust third party sites not to misuse any data they may collect.
Anyone else had this problem?
I just want to update a chart, which I'm going to pay for, I don't want to share my browsing data across sites so they can target me with adds.
Looks like I'll be looking for an alternative supplier of charts for my Raymarine plotters.

Why not just open an incognito window and allow the cookies?

Alternatively click "Learn More" and then opt out of the cookies you don't want.

Basically I object, in principle, to companies insist on collecting my browsing data, when I'm about to pay hard earned money for their product. I have less of a problem if I'm getting a service for free, somehow the free service has to be paid for.
I buy lots of stuff over the net, and this is the only site I've come across that requires third party updates to be enabled.
And
It's not what they collect, it how they use it that worries me. Cambridge Scientific, just read about how much they can find out about you just by analysing your browsing habits.

So what's the danger to you, in realistic terms?

Edit: You've already left a huge trail on the internet, are you worried about that?

Could you not clear your cookies, allow it , then once downloaded your chart block all cookies or find a different search engine .or download then on an old PC ?
But I can understand your point ,

The charts are updated using a separate piece of native software ( at least on a mac ) so you don't even have to log into the website once you've created an account and registered your card.

Don’t think Navionics are interested in, or collecting your browsing data. Instead I suspect that the cookies are an integral part of the online software updating process. Most of us are happy to use the online process as relatively fast and easy.

If you feel paranoid about it do as sailaboutvic says, allow cookies for the time needed to update the charts then clear all cookies after doing the update. Or contact Navionics and claim you don’t have access to a computer and see f they will post an update card out.

Take it to someone else’s PC to do it if your really worried, you may even be able to do the update at your local library
