Navionics Charts expired last month.
Just tried to update charts as have done before.

Sorry but your Ipad in not "compatable" with the lastest versions.
.................but you could try the last compatible download.
Sorry but your Ipad is not "compatible"........... etc etc.
but the old charts are still there however the auto routing was so handy for quickly working out arrival times fro tides etc.

Further investigation provides the info that other complainees have been told
Sorry but ....."We have improved the app so much your manky old Ipad simply could not cope." :(

Maintaining software to be compatible with manky old iPads has a cost.

You need to have to "if/thens" in the code that makes things messy, old versions of libraries, manky old iPads to test on, or you don't take advantage of newer features in iOS in which case all the users of shiny new iPads get annoyed that your app looks ancient.

At some point, as a software publisher, you have to make the call of when to let users of older hardware fall off the back of the wagon into the Abyss.

You have fallen off the back of the wagon into the Abyss.

i have two IPADS (will flog you one if you like) but I have started to use an Android Tablet now. The reason being is the charging. IPADS even when plugged into the charger while you are going along are using more power than the charger gives them and will be gradually going flat. The Android actually will run indefinitely whilst being charged plus runs for 10hours without charging. And it was so much cheaper to buy. Have a look on Amazon for a "OUKITEL RT1 Rugged Tablet'.

A modern iPad with a decent 20W USB-C charger will charge up rather than dropping down as you are going along.

nah tried all that, and the extra higher rated chargers advertised on Amazon.
with other basic apps maybe so, but with Navionics specifically - Just aint true. Got fed up with trying.

The Ipad can now keep my old laptop with Seaclear company in "Ye Olde Bide a Wee Chartplotter" cupboard for the incontinent incompatible, along with my carefully selected fine selection of redundant mobile phones.

I'm perfectly prepared to accept that it didn't work for you.
But my iPad has just gone from 81% to 86% whilst using Navionics with the brightness on max in the last 15 minutes, scrolling around.

It's partly the reason I went Android, my Aldi Android tablet will maintain and increase it's charge while running Navionics in the foreground, my iPhone XR gets mighty hot using Navionics on it and charging at the same time, a little sun on it and it keels over when it gets too hot.

The phone charging area on an SC35 ... we call it the phone cooker.
In sunlight, my iPhone just displays a red thermometer and sulks.

It looks good, just ordered one, thanks.

Now that you have seen the light and moved on from your iThingy, you can also install OpenCPN.
That would be two Open Source software systems in one day - you could even start a trend.
actually i have been playing with ORCA and SavvyNavvy on said tablet. Jury is out so far, but Savvy is growing on me.

The boat that I looked buying at last month had an Archos Oxygen Android tablet running Navionics, funny that I had just upgraded from the same Archos to the Aldi Medion tablet a year ago as it had more working memory with a slightly faster processor to run my drone where the Archos struggled a bit with it.
The Medion tablet runs Navionics just fine and way better than my iPhone XR
