Poll Domhain
For anyone attracted by the big photo on the editorial page of the current issue who might think of visiting this attractive anchorage, a word of warning.
You will not be able to find it "in the wilds of Argyll" but you can visit it by another days sailing further north in the Inner Sound, just south of Applecross.
Geography is obviously not a strong point!

Oh bless them, any recognition that there is more to life than the bloody Solent is a rare treat.

They dropped some East Coast clangers a while back too.
They sure get about - though Gawd knows how they get there.
You, too, might get a photo on the cover (or anywhere else for that matter) if your photography is up to scratch. They used to pay for it, but as they seem to be pretty impecunious these days don't bet on it.

Can someone tell me if the Photo is credited to anyone? A few months back YM printed an image I took of Poll Domhain. It would be great if they'd printed another one.

In fact I've just had a flick through what I think is this month's issue (Anchors, MOB, Sadler 32 on test) and I can't even find the image. Which issue? Which page?

Where is Argyll and who cares?

If you ever become interested and it is any help, you will find Argyll in Scotland, a bit above the middle on the west side. It has a lot of coast and is "wild" but of course this is only of relevance to those of us who sometimes sail around there.
You are much better staying down south where you won't encounter any "wilds"; there are far to many venturing North already and it is starting to get far to crowded up here in mid-summer. It will be even worse when they start trying to find Pol Domhain.

I used to do a small blog for PBO 4 or 5 years ago when they still had money. Not a penny - the argument was that they didn't pay for anything published on the internet.
In the end I got a free 1-year PBO subscription.
As some of you may already know I was the Around the Coast correspondent to YM for Devon & The Tamar for nigh on 30 years until last year and for which I was paid wordage. They also paid for the occasional photo submitted and published. I think you might expect the gradual demise of ATC over the next few years as correspondents drop off their perches and are not replaced.
When I began I was told by my old friend the late Des Sleightholme, then Editor of YM, that ATC was the most popular regular feature in those days, but it seems to have been replaced from that lofty position by more semi technical stuff which is maybe no bad thing.
Have you noticed how thin the magazine has become in the last few months? Probably because of the fall in advertising revenue which most of the publishing world is suffering due to the credit crunch etc.
