Nav system with AIS for Ipad

I have the Navionics app for my Ipad which works great. However it does not have the facility to superimpose AIS data to show ships on the charts. Is anyone aware of the latest options for achieving this and have practically used the options to good effect ??

Are you receiving your AIS data from an onboard AIS wifi receiver / transceiver? There are options for Android like OpenCPN but I don't know about iPads.

Does the website of your AIS receiver not give a list of apps which will work for you?

I got the impression he doesn't currently have an AIS receiver, and wants information on the possibilities in order to make the right choice.

Not with Navionics but I think iSailor has (had?) a function whereby AIS can be overlaid - requires an Ais receiver with wifi. Also it maybe subject to a subscription charge.
Not to be confused with the other Ais offering on iSailor (again subscription) which is web-based like Marine Traffic i.e. not 'live' as such.

Ah. I see. In that case I have a VesperMarine system with wifi but there are others from DigitalYacht, NASA and another that gets mentioned quite often on the forum.

Sorry for not being clear. I do not have an AIS reciever and only expect it to work where I can get a data signal from the cellular network.
If there is a full 2 way AIS system which works with Ipad then I would also be very intersted

If by 2 way you mean an AIS transceiver then they will all work with one of the apps available for iPad.

If you just want to see maps and ships transmitting AIS then just go to MarineTraffic.com on your iPad ... many other sites available. However, there are many limitations to this method ... see many other past threads on the subject.

You could try Boat Beacon ,that works for me on my IPad.

Huh? Surely most transceivers don't have any output directly suitable for an iPad. Or do you mean fitting any transceiver and then adding a standalone wifi box connected by NMEA 2000 or 0183?

Fit a wifi AIS receiver from Digital Yacht then either use their own AIS app, or download iNavX, iSailor or Imray charts.

I meant AIS box with wifi as I referenced in post #2.
