I took a pic of these ships at anchor the other day. When I looked back at the image I couldn't quite work out what lights were being shown or why in the circumstances.

It might be that things are different in IALA-B regions?

:D

No diifrence in B region - that's just buoys. IALA A/B came in at a time that I can even remember (35 yrs ago?) whereas nav lights go back much further

Should have 2 anchor lights, front one higher, so surely those lights are just deck working lights and they haven't even turned on the anchor lights yet. It looks just before sunset(?)

Have another go, jfm.......... :D

There are no lights, are there? The four apparent "lights" are graphics on the screen. The clue is that the one on the far left is in the shape of a magnifying glass.

Yup, it's my iphone wallpaper. :D

It's English Bay, British Columbia. The pic was taken on 28 December 2015 at just after 2pm from in front of a restaurant called the Teahouse in Second Beach, Vancouver. It looks closer to sunset because it is taken into the sun, I think.

I liked the pic and thought I'd use it as wallpaper but when I did, the dots denoting the pages of apps just happened to fall in line with the deck level of the ship in the foreground. :D

Virtual pint to benjenbav - the first poster I can remember who posed a Colregs related question that jfm didn't get right.
