Nav Lights

<<<I spoke to one guy recently who admitted to always showing tricolour plus deck lights at night. "So that people stand a better chance of seeing me". "I know what it says in the coll regs, but I feel it is more important that I'm seen".>>>

"Oh look here comes a power boat with a yacht right behind it or is it on top of it"

Why screw up a system most of us understand? Do you really want to be the cause of an accident when we cannot understand who and what you are. You probably don't go out much at night if you are suggesting this?
I'd probably go out of my way to avoid a strobe, but would have no idea what type or size of boat you were? Which is a lot more dangerous than knowing what you are, and what direction you are heading.

Tricolour masthead lights

are extremely difficult to distinguish against a backdrop of shorelights - just try it yourself.
For that reason I always turn from the tricolour to deck-level navigation lights when within about 6 miles of shore.

Re: Welcome

Nobody ignores DeckBoobie for very long!

I think we'd have done a much more thorough and scientific survey if she hadn't forced us away from the window and into the bar after only 8 boats had passed. The state of my head on Sunday morning suggested that the move may have been a little early.

I totaly agree, if we (as sailing yachtsmen) go changing the ColRegs to suit our personal view, then how can we expect any credability when we cry unfair if one of the other regulations is breached.

It cannot be one set of rules for them but a modified set for us
