So is John Holden still in the business somewhere or has he sailed off into the sunset and retired? I was thinking of using the slip at Old Mill sometime to check the hull, and its the closest nice concrete one to me- I think, so far, that I've found. I'm sure Butler and Co will be just as accommodating.
John does private work, I know he got a bit ticked off with people which is why he sold the business. A much happier man now by the looks of things. Still in Dartmouth enjoying a more relaxed life. Ashley Butler will have you on the slip or in the dry dock but he is busy with restoration works and pushing for new builds he is all booked up until the summer. They still have the concrete slip at Noss! (The yard has got planning permission) so best get there quick.
Just so you're aware - I've had a lot of work done by Ashley. Some of it was good. However I am having my hatch that he built 18months ago, entirely rebuilt next week, as it leaked so badly and now has swollen up so much that I can't get out!
It's a very long story - that shouldn't really be talked about on a forum. Never-the-less, we ended up not speaking, and therefore he doesn't know. And no he very much made it himself to his design and was quite insistent that it would be fine. Hopefuly I shall be posting some photos of the rebuild and so you can see what the problem is. I've just posted a request for advice about how to remake it to a better design.
The hatch in question was not totally my design, but adapted to suit the client's taste, against my strong recommendations.
If the Hatch had been maintained in a suitable manner and all invoices settled in full, Butler & Co would have been happy to sort out any legitimate problems free of charge.
Fair winds and Happy new year. Ashley Butler
