NASA Target Wind

I've lost the anemometer cup assembly off my NASA target wind 3 times in the last 5 years usually after a gale. The last set only lasted few months. Looking around the marina, I noticed that almost all the other boats with NASA wind instruments also lost their wind speed cups but none of the other manufacturers units seemed to have suffered

Does anybody know why they come off and how to stop it?

Is it possible to interface any other (more robust ) mast head unit to the Target display?

Does anybody have an electrical schematic of the NASA mast head unit?

i was the same as you i think i lost about the same and then last year at the london boat show i went to buy a new set and deceided that as the pin that holds the spoons had gone a bit loose i would buy a new one i was sold a new arm and bottom piece for the unit with insread of the old pin anew type with a small threaded pin and a nylock nut so far so good .icant remember the price but it was not a lot KIERON

i agree the nylon locking nut is vital, talk to nasa, they are very helpfull, i had the same trouble.
in fact i think there are two ways nasa have of fixing the cups, and if you use the wrong version it falls off.

I had just decided to buy one of these, are the new ones defective as well? and how much are the replacement cups?

Thanks to all for your advice on target wind cups - I guess I'll be getting on the phone to NASA. Hopefully the mast will be staying up a little longer in future
