The display in my unit has lines across it and is generally dark. Does anyone have any experience of this and suggestions how to resolve?

Adjust the contrast. Some have a knob sticking out the back. If that doesn't solve it... bin.

If it is still a problem take a picture of the screen and post it to NASA, they are really helpful.

Mine went after 8 years and Nasa replaced the screen for about £50 if I remember correctly. Fast turnaround too.

Mine had a perfectly working display when I send it to NASA to check why it wasn't receiving anything. They claimed that the LCD module failed within seconds of them starting to test it. A remarkable and, for them, profitable coincidence. I will never, ever buy anything more from them.
