A friend has given me a present of a NASA GPS Repeater. I have a Garmin 128 installed in my boat. I am confused by the fitting instructions. How do I connect the garmin power/data cable to the NASA unit....there is what they term a "RS232 Plug Adaptor" fitted to the NASA repeater. What colour wires do I connect between the two instruments? Does the NASA instrument require a seperate power supply
All help appreciated....confused and bewildered. Thank you....Joe Moran

This is soooooooooooooooo easy, so stop worrying right now.

I've done exactly the same - Clipper GPS repeater plugged into a Garmin GPS 128.

However, if you don't have the manual for the GPS then I can see why you're struggling.

The GPS has an NMEA output which I think is the blue wire. Simply connect this to the NMEA input on the repeater. Then enter the setup menu on the GPS and set it to output NMEA data.

turn both units on and hey presto, soon after the 128 aquires a signal the repeater will display it too.

If you don't have the manual and no one else can give you specific instructions then let me know, I'll photo copy the relevant bits of mine for you (but it's on the boat so it'll be after the weekend.)

Try www.garmin.com - they might have a manual in PDF format.

Thanks Roger
It's a little more complicated.
Questions (1) does the NASA repeater need it's own power supply

(2) do I need to connect both the input and output wires or what. The out NMEA wire is blue. The in NMEA wire is brown
Thanks

Re: found it for you...

Thank you for your help. This is what I did
Connected red (NASA) to red (Garmin)
Connected black (NASA) to black (Garmin)
Connected Blue (NASA) to blue (Garmin).
It works!!
I discarded the "special computer-type connector"
Hope other people find thios useful
