Anyone out there know of a way to combat dangerous / inconsiderate behaviour ????

Situation on Sunday... 8 Boats (stinkies & raggies) peacefully at anchor in a bay when along comes speedboat (CANNED HEAT II) and his 2 mates on PWCs and think it great fun to tow skiers and do-nuts through said moored boats. Notwithstanding various owners etc swimming around boats kids swimming out from beach.
Disaster waiting to happen.... Called CG but not interested.
Will forward photos of incident to port authority but i doubt any notice taken.
Any suggestions???

Bit surprised that the Cost Guard wasn’t interested – if you’d done that on the Thames the EA would land on you quick enough.

Had a similar experience at Cookham – pratt in speed boat at night creating hell – phoned police who said what can we do – you’ve got a boat – we haven’t !!!!

Re: Wot you CAN do is

rig lots and lots of floating black string between the boats. Preferably that horrid stuff that melts when you get it round your propshaft. Won't stop the wetbikes, tho. Need to think about them some more...

Can I add MAD RAIN to the list. In the mad melee of Tall Ships he came through the maelstom on full plane.

Almost as crass was the old launch with RAF roundels on the side

Did anyone see the Hobycat amongst the scrum with grey kevlar sails. Not dangerous to anyone but himself!

QHM's remit covers not only Portsmouth but quite a way out as well, not sure how far. They are very interested in speed breakers and dangerous behaviours. The MoD police have surprising powers to act and have the craft and men to back it up.

Was at East Cowes over the weekend, on Monday could not beleive my eyes as I watched two sailing boats (one small dinghy and another a catamaran) trying to sail against the tide and wind out into the Solent. Between them they completely blocked the river as they made no headway but instead just zig zagged back and forth. At one stage they had at least fifteen boats queued behind them all trying to avoid each other. These inconsiderate BA$TARDS caused at least three of these boats to collide and another (sail boat under power) almost to be written off as the tide and wind pushed him side on onto the end of a pontoon, it was only through the efforts of the people watching these MORONS that we mannaged to fend him off so serious damage was avoided. At one Stage the cat hit another boat forcing the other to do a 180 turn and head down wind into the other boats caught up in the Malay.
Eventually the catamaran got caught on the end of the pontoon, but instead of calling it a day the ignorant $hits pushed off and tried again.
And where was the Harbour master when all this was going on? No where to be seen.

They caused absolute chaos for at least 10 minutes and was the worse behaviour I have ever seen on the water.

This is a tough one Tico. At the bank holiday we had all sorts of nutters on jet skis and speed boats buzzing our regatta. We did demand that our CG, who has been noticably absent the whole year, attend in force and fair enough they did - and they policed the channel. There were many near misses and a number of incidents involving collisions, I believe there was one drowning but this is yet to be confirmed.

The harbourmaster has levied higher launch fees on jet skis in order to try and discourage them - but to no avail.

Sadly, incosiderate behaviour over our regatta weekend wasn't confined to powered craft. There was dreadfully selfish behaviour exhibited by members and organisers of the dinghy club regatta further down the Portmadoc channel. Their tacking back and forth across a narrow channel in which right of way exists, threatened the safety and efficacy of the Cletic Long Boat race, for which I was supplying lead-boat services.

OK....Bank Holiday madness over and our estuary returns to some normality - but all this doesn't answer your question does it??

At the end of the game, the King and the Pawn go back in the same box.
