Naked sailing

I am reminded of having gone to a lecture by Clare Francis at I think the Little Ship Club on her OSTAR entry in the Ohlson 38 "Robertson's Golly" - she had been below and heard something - as one does when singlehanded - so she went on deck and saw a Russian trawler, close by, whose crew seemed really remarkably enthusiastic. It was only then that she realised that she had nothing on...

There's 3,000 Germans sailing off Croatia who seem to think that every day is Naked Sailing Day....or so it seems......

And quite a few British like us I'm afraid - by far the most practical and comfortable way to sail if you are in a civilised climate. No change of clothes between reefing in a rainsquall and sunbathing in a calm.

No way can I walk about in bare feet. I once stubbed my toe on the genoa car, Hopped about for ages. No sympathy from the wife either-- never again
I would have to wear my boots whatever the weather

That's a strangely UK problem - most other nationalities see barefoot sailing as the norm and the ideal - better balance and grip too. It's usually considered very bad mannered to step on someone else's boat without removing shoes.
I have stubbed my toes at home and on the boat but rarely. For me it's sea boots and socks or barefoot - nothing in between seems needed.

I think there must be an old UK sailing book from the 50s or earlier saying that bare feet are dangerous so it's become a national belief with MAB types.

Naked except for a harness?
I believe there are special clubs for that sort of thing.

So I understand, but no, naked as in "sheet bended a warp to the halyard, climbed on the pulpit, shouted "Geronimo!" and swung off, letting go before I hit the bow of the boat and then swimming back. Much fun.
