Apologies for the provocative headline.

A good raggie friend of mine left an expensive watch in the toilet portakabin at Victoria Dock Marina at Caernarfon. In the couple of minutes it took for him to realise that he had left it there a two or three people off a large flashy motorboat went into the gents and collected it. It was seen on CCTV and Mark the Marina manager to his credit and risk to his job confronted the people seen to have gone in there, much to the amusement of the scum present who laughed in his face.
If anyone has noticed someone from Deganwy/Conwy wearing a U Boat watch (huge dial) which they suddenly acquired please PM me.

It would more useful to know what make or the name of said "large flashy motorboat " ?

Does no one record who comes and departs from said marina?

My friend and marina staff know what boat it was but I couldn't put that on here, the incident was CCTV'd and we know it's them. The Marina manager tried doing something about it within minutes without success, the Police can't do anything because it was one of three people and there isn't CCTV in the loo.

As I said it's a controversial heading which I apologise for. It is of course scum who just happen to be on a motorboat, I know that all motor boaters are honest decent and truthful people and never create inconsiderate wash......................

Come to think of it there's plenty of scum who go around on saily boats as well.

I see no prob at all with the thread title. In view of the described events to my mind it's an accurate description (The scum might disagree).

I'm originally from Caernarfon and like most places anything left unattended for more than a few seconds is fair game to the lighter fingered lot.

Am I old fasioned?

A couple of years ago I found a watch in a locker at the changing room of the hotel where I swim. Same brand as mine so worth several £100 (When I had a job and money I got p'd off with buying batteries/replacement watches so bought a decent old fasioned one that would stand the test of time. Paid for itself by now). Took it to reception and explained the circumstances. Not long after a somewhat agitated man entered and visited and left the changing room.

'Excuse me Sir are you looking for something?'

'I think I left a watch in a locker'

'What's the make please?'

same as mine

'I took it to reception for safe keeping'

many thanks etc and I said that I'd like to hope that anyone finding mine would do the same thing. I doubt it somehow.

I have every sympathy for your friend, it's a terrible thing to have happened. What I don't understand is if you know the name of the boat and you know it was them, what will be the good of finding out where they're from etc. if nothing can be done? It's a relatively small boating community and it wouldn't be difficult to trace them, just not sure what it will achieve.

A wander around Conwy, Deganwy and Pufwelly would be likley to produce a result, trouble is, which one of the crew would you confront?

was the watch insured away from the home.a crime number may be needed but the chance of getting it back may be gone.
lost a car off my drive(rx7) one new years night and a 1 year old r1 yamaha from schipol airport.gutted both times but the insurance takes some of the pain away but as your friend was close to the culprits may be time to throw an anagram of the boats name.

I can't afford posh watches - or marina fees, but if I take my watch off, anywhere, it goes in my pocket immediately. Even replacing a 10 quid watch would pi55 me off. Doors, bolting; horse has gone & all that, but maybe save someone else another time.

Rather than apologise for the headline why not simply type something you don't feel the need to apologise for? What you're actually saying is "I know this is going to cause offence to those who own motor boats but I couldn't give a toss".

Why post this only on the MoBo forum when you won't even identify the boat? Don't you want anyone except MoBo owners to look out for the watch, or are you holding MoBO owners alone collectively accountable for this apparent theft?

Why identify your friend as a good Raggie friend? Is this relevant? Are you implying that you don't have any good MoBo friends or that it wouldn't matter to you if a MoBo friend lost his expensive watch?

The name of the boat is in the public domain presumably so why can't you post it on here? The only thing that could be a problem is if you can't be certain of the facts and it turns out that they aren't exactly as you have presented them.

You have used the word "provocatively" inappropriately. Your title, and your post, aren't provocative, they're obnoxious.

Didn't offend this mobo'er one bit. Have a glass of wine and chill.......

You sure picked the right Moniker didn't you? Or has Nursie forgotten to give you the medication today? :D

Start with the skipper? He might have had some less honourable 'mates' along for a jolly. You may appeal too his sense of seamanship etc...

unless the boat was called something like 'Crime Pays', then it's probably a lost cause:o

Come on Savageseadog, you HAVE to name the boat. You owe it to any other local boaters so they can maintain a good look out on their own possessions if the said boat was moored near them
