I'm an ex trawlerman and know nothing about sailing, Anyone local here close to North coast who might help?

I have a Colvic 24 now and I'd love a sailor to come and have a look at it for me if you're local.. I have no idea about sailing boats so 2 heads are better than one (excuse the pun) and all that so if anyone could have a look around this boat I'd really appreciate it . It's in my yard, not in a marina.

Kind regards

I hope your not discouraged by Poignard's grumpy response. I've always found sailors to be helpful and good natured but there's always one......

Had you posted here about some disaster that befell you while out sailing with little or no experience, I'm sure you would have been berated by that same poster for your stupidity etc. I'm happy that you've done the right and sensible thing by asking for advice and help. That's part of what these forums are for. Best of luck with your endeavours.

Where are you? My son is in Fleetwood (living on an ex-trawler!) and may be able to help.

Well, I wouldn't like to be thought unhelpful, so if the OP will let me have his address I will send him, as a gift, a copy of this book

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Start-Sailing-Royal-Yachting-Association/dp/0901501824

Having read that, he should pick a nice summers day with a light breeze, motor out into the bay, set the sails and practice the different points of sailing. Then develop those easily learnt skills and he will soon be competent to do some real cruising.

Well that was a nicer way of putting it :):)

At last, actual advice, such as the OP requested. May I add that a course of instruction would also be beneficial. There are a number of clubs and training centres affiliated to RYANI.

I've been at sea all my adult life, im no spring chicken, I've just always had an engine so haven't hoisted a sail before. Thanks for your constructive criticism and welcome to my ignore list. Whatever chip you seem to have on your shoulder is nothing to do with me. I'm not biting and I'm not feeding the troll.

Everyone else, thank you

Kind regards

Skipper.... I'm in the area between the 5th and 9th. PM me if you want to get together.

Poignard.... 'We know where you live'... ;)

Take no notice of him. If its of any consequence he trolled me for ages, still does, but I put him on ignore.

What is the matter with you snowflakes?

I give the man good advice, ie get out there and have a go. Which is how I learned (and without the luxury of an engine, by the way.)

I offered to buy him a teach-yourself book.

I even overlooked the offensive PMs he has sent me.

And what do I get for my trouble? A lot of abuse.

Ain't no justice here.
