The extrusion matrix for a gripplethripwurbley.

The handle is designed to cut them off at the length required as the die forces the antimony/gold mixture through the heating chamber to the compressor breech.

It looks quite old, (but in beautiful condition) so you may not have to go on a Health and Safety course before you use it.

Don't forget to earth it before you start it up, though.

As usual, Sarabande is talking without the benefit of firsthand knowledge. This is in fact the pre-tensioner for a knurlbox extruder, used before injecting the LITHIUM/antimony PRIOR to extrusion. This is a an extremely hazardous operation and full method statements and risk assessments apply.

Do NOT earth it.

You're all miles out. It's a Rottweiler testicle measuring caliper.
Just open the discs, place either side of the mutt's balls and turn the handle until the discs are a snug fit on the balls.
Then read off from the scale.

Try it.

If you've ever tried to creen a sternwender you'll know just what this is. It's the pre-tensioner for the gripper - or, more correctly, the mord gripper. Tensioning the mord in any other way is nigh on impossible but, if not tensioned, the necessary intimate contact with the recirculating mechanism is out of the question.

The device is undoubtedly worth a lot of money - especially if it's original. Did you see it on eBay??

You're being dreadfully unfair. My grandfather had one and as little children we used to play with it almost every day. Then the earth strap fell off one day, and my little sister was transmogrified.

I think, sir, you'll find it's spelt "griBBlethripwurbley". not "gripplethripwurbley"! At times, the ignorant tosh spouted on here by people who should know better AND with such conviction, fair snurbles me!

Still, I must agree, it is a particularly fine example and in very good condition too!

...but then again, I suppose it could be a home-made self-tailing conversion piece for a non-self-tailing winch! It might be worth trying it in the boats winches to see if it fits!

Judging by the handle it looks like it should be mounted vertically. All the input my small brain can manage I am afraid.
