People often don’t realize....paradise can be boring
Not quite paradise. The harbour area of Mogan is nice but the giant hotels are sprouting further back. I went up to see the dunes at Maspalonas the other day and to get to it you have to go through miles of hotels. Busy even at this time of year. I wouldn't want to live here. I'd prefer a village life. A friend sent me a link to this house in a place I have been before which is very much the sort of house I'd like but it's an hour from the sea and moorings in the ports there are hard to come by Check out this 3 bedroom stone house for sale on Rightmove

An hour is often an exaggeration based on crazy driving in the middle of the night….remember during the boating season traffic more than doubles.

If you want quiet and the climate, you could consider a trip to La Gomera or even less tourists, El Hierro?

Yes,I thought I might take a ferry to one of the other islands this week.
To get to La Gomera it's either drive up to Agaete, ferry over to Santa Cruz, bus to Los Cristiano's, ferry to La Gomero or drive to Las Palmas and 3.5 Hr ferry so would probably need an overnight or two

Yeah it's a bit of a faff. Flights are easy but a bit pricey for non residents.

San Sebastian has some reasonable hotels in town. On El Hierro, Restinga darn sarf is Brill. Quiet and laid back.

Thanks for this.
The flights aren’t actually that bad (£176 return) and found a really nice hotel in San Sebastian https://paradores.es/es/parador-de-la-gomera?
So off there tomorrow for a couple of days.
Only slight problem is that the normal car rental places are showing no availability but there are a few local ones I haven't tried

I think that's the one that overlooks the marina. Fab spot. There are some n8ce small restaurants I town. I the North East corner of the square is a bar dedicated to the transatlantic rowers.

A car is worth it if you can. Otherwise a bus over to Valley Gran Rey is also worth it but slow.

Hope you enjoy it!
