I have a Garmin plotter on my boat along with an old Navstar thing, Gps, hand held plotter, my phone (built in gps) an ipad (built in gps)

The coordinates on the Garmin are different to all of the other devices on the boat, but it does show me in the exact position on the chart,I don't just mean by a few seconds but by about 40 minutes, I have tried a factory reset, turning off, disconnecting it, smacking it, I even threatened it with manacies, but still it doesn't read the same as the others, any suggestions from the experts out there?

Are you sure they are all reading the same

i.e

Deg, min, sec against deg, min and decinals of min

1deg 30min 30sec not 1 deg 30.500 min

Heaven forbid anyone thinking I'm an expert, but there are several different chart datums that a plotter may use. I suggest you check that first. You'll probably need a manual - I would anyway! ISTR something on the lines of WGS84 being one that is commonly used. Try googling chart datum.

Are you sure you had the data set to boat position not cursor position. It's an easy mistake to make.

has your Garmin got a Menu page, with Satellite dropdown ? If so, you should the see the 'accuracy' displayed there.

For a start, how many satellites can you 'see' please ?

From memory it was 9' what difference would that make
great, accuracy relates to the triangulations based on the various sats visible.
However, nine is a v.good value, shouldn't be off (maybe you'd get probs with 3-4 sat locked.

Sorry cannot help. You sure the other 4gpses on board also display same ref.point setup?

V.

Yep all instruments are reading identical but the Garmin is miles out and yes it's running wgs84 and the boat position and not the cursor position

WGS84 is the datum, but you also need to check the position format, or you could be reading things wrong, as per post #2.

Make sure everything is set to hddd mm.mmm (or whatever you prefer)

Really can't remember know I am 180 miles away and have slept twice since seeing the bat, I will take a look when next down, but I am pretty sure that they all read the same format, will double check, cheers:)
