:ambivalence:

Err, just how long is it to November the 5th Bonfire Night or a sort of Viking Ship sacrifice bonfire night (or even day??) Preston just might see it as a promotional event. So £5 a box of matches might raise some revenue, insurance permitting of course :encouragement:

Ah well, all's not necessarily well that starts well :nonchalance:

Innuendos such as these will put the sponsors off more so than Ellie's silence I'm sure

I doubt it, but something else puzzles me, and I definitely don't mean you at all. It is the way some folk routinely attack those who raise questions about the OP's project; often in bizarre and personal terms a bit like Mr Cocker's defence of Britney Spears.

These virtual outriders lay constant claim to the moral high-ground, but an unemotional application of reason suggests otherwise. I have a wonderful, and occasionally bolshie, teenage daughter. Let us assume that in a few years she is attempting something similar to the OP's project and that I was sailing around the world uncontactable for a year.

Is it not self-evident that I should welcome Mr Duck's words of caution? Is it not obvious that I would rather find out that Skipper Stu had caused her to run home in tears, than discover that her adoring fans had waved and chanted "Go ***** go!" as she sailed off into the Irish sea on a possibly dangerous vessel? And who in their right mind would bring age or the standard of dentistry into the decision?

It's likely that the recent bad weather has left many of us with a dose of cabin fever. Oh what a shock the outriders are going to get when they realise it is they who should have been taking the pills!

Better the devil you know etc?

Know something? If it came to a choice between having to be cooped up in a small boat with Skipper Stu or you, I'd prefer Skipper Stu anyday.

There might be some shouting and swearing going on but that would be infinitely better than having to put up with your sanctimonious patronising and preaching.

There'd be times I might be tempted to chuck Stu in the sea the side but with you I'd probably throw myself in.

(ps if this goes on I might even end up sending Stu a 'Friends request'! :D)

It's quite common (on these forums in particular)for people to express disgust at an other's personality or viewpoint.
It seems that it is not possible to state a point of view without someone telling you shouldn't say that (or even hold such a position).
There is a lot of preaching going on. It appears that some forumites fall well below the accepted norms and it is someone's job to tell them so.
I am not sure who elects these spokespeople.

Whist it may be their right to say what they feel, it is, in just the same way, the right of the criticised to have expressed their opinion. And so it goes on.

I followed that thread for a while last year - fascinating stuff, everyone said it would sink in a week - still afloat I see!

I too have followed that saga. At first with delusions that I might be able to help Hotrod, then reluctant admiration as he carried on marching to the beat of his own drum, amazement when he managed to launch it on his own with the most Heath Robinson equipment imaginable, disbelief over the finger biting incident but alas I am now one of the vultures who drop by now and then to see if there are bones to pick.

That one doesn't have quite the buttock-clenching, peering-through-the-fingers horror of the Raw Faith saga.

I am finding it increasingly difficult to believe that somebody with a lifetime of cyber connections and contacts can simply have evaporated.

There is somebody out there who knows of her welfare and what is going on. Frankly, I don't really care what is going on but to allow people to speculate over health matters is, erm, unhealthy and perhaps a little sick.

Sometimes the analogy of a cat playing with a mouse comes to mind.

Precisely. But have the rest of the mice figured it out yet?

No, he's upgraded it to shifting the whole of Preston.

Brucie It only needs one day with light winds (rain doesn't stop craning )and there has been plenty of them .

They give out the stuff for media exposure. [...] Mind you, this thread is certainly grabbing attention, so we may all be doing the OP a favour with her clients by keeping it going.

Come on, then, folks, let's just see how effective this advertising effort has been. Without looking back up the thread, how many of the "advertisers" can you remember? Just numbers, please: don't give away the answers to folk who come along later.

(I am going to email them with a link to this thread...i have mentioned them so many times now they would be daft not too) Hey Garmin, how about a sat nav for my Aston Martin so i don't get lost on the way!!

Are we including Low-Loaders 'R' Us?

Oh, that old chestnut is trotted out again - don't critcise someone whose opinion you disagree with - even when the opinion is nothing less than a vicious twisted snipe at the OP founded on what basis ?

I'll ask again who knows what is happening - no-one I believe - so where is the justification for these snide remarks?

If this attitude is preaching then what on earth is the above quoted post - hurrumph
