You haven't read the thread have you? This has been discussed to death.

In fact, I have.

And, as I've mentioned over and over, it's all down to insurance. Preston Marina may well have the contacts and commercial weight to convince underwriters that the ground survey isn't necessary - yet they don't seem to want to exploit this. Or maybe they've been down this route - an update from them would be great even if the OP doesn't want to.

the 170 ton tranny was loaded in another part of the marina, North corner of the inner lock.

Fair enough!

In other news, this is Preston's very latest position, from just a few minuted ago:

"Of course we will allow it. We very much want it to happen, and it is not very difficult to do but it must be done properly. At the time of writing we believe the owner of that boat is making their own external enquiries into launching the boat - which is fine with us. We have not been instructed to launch the boat but stand ready to make preparations if so required. Our position is summarised at http://www.prestonmarina.co.uk/core_pages/EZMR.htm and remains the current position at this time."

"In addition - approx 2 weeks ago we made the owner aware of a new development which could significantly reduce the cost of the launch, but we have not had a response from the owner at the time of writing."

So what's this new development...?

So what's this new development...?

I'm guessing, sharing lift in cost with that other big vessel?

I wonder if it would be feasible to dismantle the boat plank by plank and then to reassemble it all in the basin at low water? Obviously each individual plank would need numbering, ditto the frames to ensure it all fitted back together easilly and quickly. If there was a way to build a barrage out of sandbags (loads of spare ones in Somerset) in order to hold back the early part of the flood tide, it might be possible to reassemble over an 8 hour period if enough forumites turned up to help?

Why doesn't she just get the marina's own travel hoist to lift it up and put it on an HGV? No crane, no site survey, truck it round to a cheaper lift in place. All this fuss would be over.
