Nice blog of Ellies...I have just come across this thread and correct me if I am wrong as I can't be bothered to read all the thread, but does it go a bit like this?....young person buys boat of dreams..reality kicks in soon after..young person walks away from dream with empty pockets. Ask me how I know this?

How do you know that?

I noted the Army were mentioned to help out here, shouldn't it be the Navy? They can get grounded subs free after all. If the marina cannot take the mobile crane maybe set up a static tower crane outside the marina in someones garden?

The Navy's skill seems to be in taking floating things and turning them into non-floating things.

What about waiting for a cold snap, spraying Elizmor with water to turn her into an iceberg and then waiting for her to calve when the weather turns warm again?

The ultimate nightmare is using two cranes, but it is done. If this were possible access-wise it might prove affordable and the ground loadings in two separate places might be more acceptable. How much is a, say 30 ton crane (x2)?

Despite having been quoted at 35 tons Elzimor is is reality going to be around 50tons. Two 30 ton cranes with their riggers right at the waters edge will only have a capacity of around 24t max and even then thats with an insufficient boom length to do the job. Assuming the distance of the boat from the water is not too much a minimum 200t crane is required, no getting away from that I am afraid.

Accepted it's not straightforward.
The crane that lifted me (14.5 tons) out last week is rated at 55 tons, but realistically the most he has lifted in or out is 26 tons. (Agreed two such would be too tight for this case). It cost £450 +VAT for the half day, as many lifts as we wanted. I would think there must be a possibility of spreading the load in this way, and also the cost, maybe 2 x 100ton?

It's not about spreading the load, Preston Marina said themselves that the dock side could take it, but for insurance purposes a ground survey would be required. The only thing stopping the lift in here is Ellie paying for it.

But smaller lifts are apparently done with no problems, hence why not do two smaller lifts? Wonder at what weight it becomes no problem?

Shouldn't that read "... is someone else paying for it ..." ?

You just can't leave the scab alone eh Jumblie? Kick, kick, kick. Fortunately it is a large playground.

Why would I or anyone feel inclined to help -you- in future?

Hypothetically ( and I think we are all agreed the best thing is to earn the dosh and pay, the boat is payed up to April, has had a good survey and the weather is so foul anyway)....but two cranes and a low loader: One crane takes the midships and stabilises the boat against tipping ( so no load per se) whilst the other lifts one half of the weight @ the bow end of Elizmor ( not quite half weight nor quite so simple as it needs to be a kinder lift to a wooden keeled vessel) but...A cradle or lowloader can then be slid in halfway, the bow chocked, the stern lifetd and chocked, the bow relifted, the trailer slid in all the way...A bit of a faff, but ....do-able. Then move the boat wherever you like for a convenient launch..
At no time is the whole boats weight in the air. In essence I suppose this is how I was taught to help move boats without skyhooks or expensive cranes ( usually limited access was the key criteria)..

This is just about the money!!! One crane, one lift...splosh. How much would it be for two cranes, a low loader....the haulage to another place............This thread is becoming a bit of a circular na................

New idea. I think;) big bungee from the boat to other side of the dock. wind up the tension whammo boat into water.:encouragement:

I don't think we've had that one before. Congratulations!

Tell you what. You get some quotes for what you suggest. I bet it'll cost much less to just pay for the ground survey.
