As far as I can see, the Mil Mi-26 has the largest helicopter payload, at 20t. Elizmor may be 35t, but that would easily be solved with a chainsaw, two lifts onto mudflats and some fast work with a few tubes of Sikaflex before the tide rises.

Still have to calculate the ground loadings for the four pads. Even Brains couldn't manage that.

I don't know about you, but if I had spent more than I can afford on a boat (and isn't that what we have all done?) I'd be hard put to come up with an extra thousand or two over my pared-to-the-bone budget. And if I had started this thread, and it had 'all gone wrong', I'd shut up until I had the money and a lift was actually booked.

In the meantime I would find a lot of these comments very hurtful, and in particular those that might damage my boat - let alone the cut it up/sell it/blow it up. Those are simply moronic, whether meant in jest or not.

There can be little doubt that Ellie is reading these attacks, and I dread to think how she's feeling about it. This is her future home.

As threads on PBO go, it's the polar opposite of Dylan's Centaur well saga - he's discussing a self-confessed 'disposable' boat and doesn't give a stuff about what you think of his logic.

Come the day that any of the persistent knockers and mockers have a problem with their boat, I'll certainly find it hard to refrain from reminding them of the stance they took on this thread.

Seeing as this thread has been deliberately protracted for publicity reasons a little joshing is to be expected by this time; I have been in touch with Ellie by PM in the hope I could help her - turns out a no go - how about you ?

Humourless? In this case, yes, true.

Self-righteous? No special effort. I can only think of two boats that I've knocked on YBW. One was a MacGregor 26. The other was completely forgettable, so I have forgotten it.

Ellie started this thread to get publicity for her interesting new project. If you look at her website, you'll see that she uses the readership here as a selling point for potential sponsors. When it started going wrong she used the thread to have a bit of a go at Preston Marina. She isn't really in a position to complain if the thread continues with a life of its own, particularly since she has never responded to Preston Marina's postings.

I really hope it all has a successful outcome, but she is not, and you are not, in a position to dictate how the discussion should continue.

You would find some of the comments hurtful ? I doubt if Ellie does , I expect she has a somewhat stronger character . Read her blog ,she is a bit of a " Go getter" . Dont underestimate her .

actually I am 58, fourth of four brothers, went to boarding school, spent a working life being shouted at by ignorant power crazed editors and and have grown a pretty thick carapace

most of the serious rudeness comes from people who hide their real identities and can be dismissed as mere devilment

the Centaur threads have been astonishingly long and passionate. Among the crazy, dismissive an inane comments is some really good information.

I do care what people think.... you should always do that....

but if you took every bit of advice on offer from the gainsayers then you would never buy a boat at all, let alone leave the safety of the pontoon.

As for all of us have bought a boat we cannot afford.... I have not done that yet.

Tomorrow I am going to see a boat I can afford but probably should not acquire

v excited though

- buying an Elizmor and then motoring her from Preston to Brighton would be bloody terrifying

so good on Ellie I reckon

she has more balls than me

It wouldn't be a bad idea to investigate a lift onto a low loader and then transit to the nearest 50-ton travel-hoist. Might work out to be a more affordable option?

A boat that size does not transit the roads easily. I was quoted an extra £600 from the police to escort my Rival 41 if I took her a certain route; she was legal to be unescorted but there are now controls in place on certain stretches of road. I would imagine that this big lump will require a full escort service. That doesn't sound right!
