A question: Would this thread have received the same interest (and responses) if the main protagonist had been a 50-year-old man who can't afford the launch rather than a 20-something woman who can't afford the launch??

Dylan's threads always seem to get a fair bit of attention... :D

Rule of thumb 20hp per gallon per hour. Gardners renowned for being frugal, we used to laugh when fuel was 1p per litre. About 100 hp to send her along at 7 kts.

600 miles, 86 hours, 430 gallons, the above estimate seem a fair one.

I worked on a boat with two 6L Gardners and they used 12 l per hour for the pair at about 10 knots on a 90ft heavy built steel yacht very fishing boat style shape. I guess a single engine might use more than two together but the boat is half the size so maybe 6 litres an hour? 10 tops.

we had a perkins generator that used 12 litres per hour and it was a 3 litre 50kw generator. We also had a hydraulic generator that was driven by a pump off one of the main engines which was a faf to run but could be run for almost no increase in fuel usage on the main engine and then effectively half our fuel usage on a trip. ( generators ran full time on that boat.)

In their second posting Preston Marina mentioned that there had been developments - what could those developments be?

My guess is that Ellie will share the hire of the crane when one of the other large vessels is ready to launch.

It would be nice to know if I'm correct Ellie.

Perhaps the self promotion should now be halted by the Mods locking the thread. Is there anything else to be said? I don't think so.

JE can always start a new thread to update if she so wishes.

I did briefly think that, but then I realised I'd be posting on a thread to say that people shouldn't post on it, which made me an oxymoron. And not for the first time.
