My cousins sailing from New York to Londonderry for charity.

When I first saw Jumbleducks' question I thought ' good point ' - there is, or was, for instance a setup where people doing a parachute jump for their own ' fun ' could get it for free if they raised X amount charity sponsorship, and that was my immediate thought here.

I really don't like these "Trek to Macchu Picchu for Charity X" or "Walk the Great Wall of China for Charity Y" or "Climb Kilimanjaro for Charity Z" stunts, because they all boil down to "Pay for me to have a holiday and I'll give some of the money to charity." That's why I wanted to check the situation in this case. Lots of people are trying to raise money through the Clipper Challenge, and I feel much more kindly disposed towards those of them who are paying the fare themselves and then raising some cash for a good cause.

I hope she raises squillions for the hospice and has a lot of fun.

I see that Swiss Sailing have sponsored the boat, but I see nothing to suggest that they have also paid the fees of all the crew on her. I understand that there are 22 crew members on each boat for each of eight legs, costing around £10k, so the total crew fees for one boat are around £1.75m. A quick google search finds many other crew members of sponsored boats trying to raise money for leg fees.

So my question stands, although simplified to "Is your cousin proposing to take all or part of the leg fee of at least £9,358 from any money she raises?" Perhaps the OP could tell us.

She is crewing the boat, the money she raises personally is all going to her own charity, this is nothing to do with the boat fees. hope this explains it for you. Now please feel free to take your negative comments elsewhere or to PM.

please allow me to knock that off for you, apologies to all reading in but my family is one thing I will not allow strangers to slag off.

Perhaps you should read my posts again and note that I have not written a word of criticism of your cousin, or indeed of any other member of your family.

It's certainly a better explanation than the last one.

I've read them, your suspicion is obvious. I see the stereotical scottish man obsessed with money. Sorry to proper Scottish people, I'm Ulster Scots myself...

Now plz explain to me why I have to justify myself to you?

You don't, but if you're asking people (indirectly) for money it's probably a good idea to answer obvious questions without getting too hostile. I'm perfectly happy to accept your assurance that all the money raised is going to charity (less justgiving's fairly small and reasonable cut).

There's not many of them around:D

I'd be disappointed if it wasn't. Have you seen how many of these "pay for my holiday" charity sponsorship scams there are around? However, if you check again you'll see that I have been particularly careful not at any point to criticise your cousin. Without having the facts it would have been quite wrong to do so.
