My condolences to everyone at SYH…

I was anchored by the entrance to Trimley Marshes Saturday night there was a Beach party in the corner by the water ski area but I wouldn't say the music was excessively loud and it was all quiet by just after midnight.
Fact. The noise was window rattling. Fact. it lasted from 20.00 to 05.00 the next day. Fact. it kept people awake all night. Fact. You need hearing aids and a new watch.

Speaking to the headmistress who was near retirement, she lamented that the future looked grim since failure was now being praised and the very first time kids are told they aren't good enough is when they fail their driving test. Until then nobody dare say "you're crap, work harder".
When I was teaching around the 2000s/20teens (school & adult ed), there was a "Great Idea" brought in where when marking the pupils'/students'/learners' work, we always had to give 'feedback'.
This feedback had to be in the form of "What Went Well" (praise for some aspect should be given), then followed by Even Better If (where improvements were to be identified). This was all fine & dandy, intending to help focus the students mind on the lessons learned.

However, it very quickly became a method of lesson observation, where the teacher's notes & feedback would be scrutinised for 'proper' marking.
The net effect was threefold:
  1. Production of masses of paperwork that someone could then be employed (at a higher rate than the teacher) to ensure the paperwork was being completed correctly.
  2. Keeping the teaching staff fully occupied in producing 'measurable' quantities of work - Nothing really productive, just 'keeping busy'.
  3. No matter how hard the kids worked, no matter how much of whatever they produced, no matter how high the quality of their work, it could always be improved - i.e it will never be good enough.
Staff and students demoralized and demotivated alike...

The simple rule of teaching is teachers should always be armed....a cane...a wooden blackboard duster....and for those with an athletic arm, even a piece of chalk

Very motivational that "your crap, work harder"
Motivational is a difficult concept.....take professional football....here are functioning adults, paid millions, at the top of their game....but before each match...and again at half time...they receive a motivational speech from an expert.
Imagine in a classroom....for a dull kid without ambition....without parental nurturing.....the motivational speech would have to be not just every day...but every lesson....every task...every question...every moment.....now, multiply that by 30 children.
Exhausting

It's the internet, take some comfort in the fact he'd probably not be so forthright in person!
