Generally, when bees swarm they are replete, having gorged themselves prior to leaving the hive. They are embarking on a great adventure, seeking a new home and are in a good mood, so not inclined to sting.

I have seen it for myself and have a book on the subject...

When Mrs Gorm (Aunt Heloise), was stung to death by savage bees
Her husband, (Prebendary Gorm) put on his veil and took the swarm.
He's publishing a book next May
