MV Nahlin...Dyson's efficiency paying off

Perhaps they were referring to the bow & stern-thrusters. Or the on-board vacuuming system?

The propulsion comes from four 2200 HP / 1619 Kilowatts Curtis-Brown. - Overall output: 8800 HP /6475 KW. - Cruising at a speed of 15 nautical miles per hour. - Her top Speed is around 18 knots.

You've got a point, she's definitely a Grey-Funnel boat!

The rest is just as surely white though.

Hi Dan

Nahlin was launched and designed by G L Watson & Co in 1930 and originaly had a 'buff' coloured funnel (which I think looked better).

She spent a considerable time at the Blohm & Voss shipyard Hamburg for her £30m refit back to her original specification overseen by G L Watsons and it was Dyson who wanted the funnel colour changed only.

Lovely yacht and i'm pleased he has it.

He has made his money by inventing things and building things - we need more like him

Ref sailing, He could probably carry something classic on deck to play around in if he fancies sailing

an old osprey perhaps?

some interesting reading on GL Watson's website

"Clyde-built by John Brown & Co., Nahlin's elegance was acclaimed in her day and, with her extraordinary survival to the 21st century, she remains the ultimate classic power-yacht. As John Brown & Company's Hull Number 533, Nahlin immediately preceded Cunard's iconic liner the Queen Mary. "

Yes, at 36ft beam, he could park a couple of big dinghies end-to-end across the beam, with a slot to walk between.

But I'm surprised Dyson wouldn't have gone for a yacht with sails. I'd have thought his pursuit of innovation & efficiency would lead him to admire something like Maltese Falcon...

...very similar proportions, but... "The Maltese Falcon has two 1,800 horsepower (1,300 kW) Deutz engines running at 1,800 rpm with a top speed of 20 kn (23 mph; 37 km/h) with minimal wave-making and virtually no vibration or noise and with a smooth and non-turbulent wake." And quite a beauty in her unique way. Possibly five times the price though.

I'd agree. Dyson's preference for grey is odd. Magnificent yacht otherwise, though.

At least it's not lime green and purple.

I got a bit cross with Mr Dyson yesterday, I made the mistake of washing my face after I'd ridden my bike to work, then realised the only drier was one of those wanky airblades.
