Musto hpx-lifetime promise

Musto is a great company who had lost there way in 2008/9. With Nigel Musto back in charge, 2010/11 is shaping up to be an exciting time for the company and from a retailers perspective, we now feel like good things will come out of Musto once again. So I would not give up too soon, The "lifetime Promise" is a misleading techicality without asking the question "what is lifetime".

It will be a lesson learned and something to consider when spending all that money again. Personally I would choose the MPX range every 5 years, mixed in with Henri Lloyd, Gill and Dubarry boots. A real mixbag, but as warm and dry as Apple Pie :-)

we have used Dubarry for the past 12 yrs just bought 2 prs of the Newports.
one boot ( port ) a tad tight emailed Dubarry yep send to us. so i sent the one boot + a pr of 12 yr old shamrocks that had tightened up. all stretched 1/2 size returned within one week all FOC.
The city slickers in Musto could learn a thing or two from Dubarry;)

I’ve recently had a Snap-on socket, bought in 1978, replaced under Snap-on’s lifetime guarantee, so it looks like some companies stand by their products and their stated guarantee’s more honourably than others.

Yes, Snap-on Tools carry a no quible guarntee, but then they can when you look at the mind numbing price for most of their kit. Over the years it's become a bit of a status symbol in the workshop with mechanics paying 10p in the pound every week to the dealer for the next ????? years. The problem with Snap-on is it can be lost just as easily as a tool from Elora, Sykes etc. which do the job just as well at a fraction of the price but without the "kudos".

Is not musto changing colour / style not the same kudos then:confused:

The fact is that there will be/have been so few claims under this lifetime guarantee, that it would cost Musto almost nothing, (in relation to say, their advertising budget), to honour the guarantee, whether they think it fair or not.

They now have a thread where the underlying perception will be that they may not be as honourable as we all thought.

If the OP had said his MPX let him down after 10 years in his ownership, and Musto sent him a new set..... how close to the top of our wish list would Musto be when it comes to buying new oilies - at, or near the top, methinks.

Some companies offer a 100% guarantee, (more in the US IIRC), and honour it, (Tilley are an example, as, it seems, are Leatherman). It costs them money when a claim is made, but the benefits to the brand are possibly priceless.

I've got some Henri Lloyd Ocean breathable from 1995. Still going strong, no delamination, they keep my dry as a bone, and warm as toast, (with the right layers underneath).

Go to the small claims court. Cheap and easy (so I am told).

I agree. Just pick one item, jacket or trousers. I would love you to pursue this further.

FYI I had zero response from Dubarrys over hardening of the soles so they are slippery on deck. Now bought Henry Lloyd.

The first company that really does honour their promises is going to clean up in this premier cost market!! Keep the info coming!

I have 3 sets of Musto Ocean gear and if they act like Dubarrys I will buy alternatives in future.

Lets face it guys we really buy expensive gear for sailing and with this response I am beginning to feel we are being conned and we are better off buying mountain walking clothing from other companies.!

In Musto's court!

So £1200 10yrs ago is not mind numbing?????

I'm a bit nervous about even saying this but 'Halfords Professional' tools seem pretty good to me and also carry a lifetime guarantee which they do honour without quibble at a fraction on Snap On prices.

i have written to Nigel Musto.
dependent on that out come i will send him a link.
Musto staff need to be trained better in customer relations

I hope they see this thread anyway!

I saw a similar thread a few months ago regarding some Henri Lloyd gear, someone from HL posted apologies on the thread almost immediately. Mind you it's not 'opening time' yet, so be interested to see if there will be some sort of comment from them by the end of the day?!
