If you go when first high water springs is in the middle of the day, you can make it right up to the quay and have enough time for lunch in the pub, before you have to go back down to the entrance.
Same scenario at Shalfleet Quay in Newtown river. In fact you can do them on consequetive days and you will have experienced two of the best pubs in the Solent.
Errm, if you are referring to Keyhaven and you draw more than about 1.7m don't take that as a given.
If there is high pressure the water level can be .5m under predicted levels and even at the top of springs you've only got about 2.2m to play with in the shallowest bit in the final reach before the quay
Excellent - many thanks.
I remember the opposite end of the spectrum many years ago in Newtown, when we were rowing through the sandbanks, with the oars pushing us through on the bank either side and we popped through like a cork. It was a very Riddle of the Sands moment!
I'm with Ken, Warrior is absolutely fascinating, the cusp between two eras. Eras of change in shipbuilding technology, changes of propulsion technology, changes of gunnery technolgy, introduction of mechanical equipment etc etc. Enjoy.

After the crew change there will only be two on board for the next 10 days - more relaxed and slower.

You do realise that the Round The Island Race takes place on Saturday 20th June with 1400+ yachty things out on the water for most of the day. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
I would have said leave them all to starboard but surely that's what wooslehunter meant.
Swmbo once insisted on leaving the green marker just off the beach at East Head to starboard - on the way out. Amazing how quick a fin keeler will stop on a sand bank.
Yes, but the OP comes from the East Coast and his Moody draws 1.4m so he will be delighted to have so much water!
As you know, if you can manage it, well worth the effort. One of my favourite photos is taken of my wife and labrador, Daisy in the grounds in front of the clubhouse, with Tranona (see letters in this months YM) in the background moored up on the quay. If only I could have found a way of getting my Morgan in to the picture it would have been absolutely perfect instead of just perfect!
