Perhaps a comment from Simon might be helpful....

It seems to me that Mumbles Head, near Swansea does get a bit of battering from winds.

When we get a depression coming in, Mumbles often seems to get the really high winds.

Is this my correct impression, or am I just seeing a local observation magnified???

No doubt there are windier locations, but Mumbles at Swansea does seem to get the high winds...

Sailed from there (Oystermouth) for many years.

Never thought the 'THE' Mumbles (there's 2 of them), was any different to anywhere else in that area as far as breeze was concerned.

Now tidal stream, thats another matter.

We visited last year and were surprised how few boats were moored there, mostly small < 22ft ft day fishing boats, as it is a pretty spot. On talking about this with local boaters they said that many insurance companies would not insure boats on moorings at the Mumbles as very bad (in easterlies?) and there had been a number of wrecked boats. Also talked to people with boats in Swansea marina who confirmed this moorings and insurance problem.
