multiplait and 8mm chain

I have a short length of 8mm chain and would like to make a multiplait- chain- multiplait bridal to loop through visitor mooring buoys.

What's the best size of multiplait to use? I was thinking about using 14mm nylon, is that too big?

Mine is 14mm with 8mm chain. I've used it a lot, not just for mooring buoys, and is now looking a little chafed so thicker probably better.

Mine uses three-strand nylon, easier to back-splice than multiplait. At a guess it is 14 mm and has been used extensively.
