Yes it's very sad after combing the English Chanel and Irish sea for twenty five years. No idea what we will do with our selves now. But the back and legs have made it just to painful to visit her any more.

Still. not many boats could earn her reputation, or is that infamy.

Glad and sorry, title of an old Faces song, describes how I feel. Had some great times on MF, let's hopes she's going to a good home.

Yes, we had some great times together LJ and hope the new guy will look after her. But true to form, she has neglected to tell her new owner, that she would really really like a couple of engine rebuilds.

She never leaked a bit of oil, all the time I owned her. But since I told her she was up for sale and got other folk to drive her. She's thrown a wobbler. Not surprising really.

Anyway, if I was going to keep her, she would have had her engines sorted, after all she has taken us round half the known world,and thats only if you count the Solent.

Cant think of many owners that have done, Plymouth to Ci's then Britany, returning via Solent. Silly Isles, but also Ireland, IOM and Scotland. Mostly in one go and then again a few times.

Perhaps a "Top 10 MF stories" should be collated and issued as a nautical publication as a "Lessons Learned" for the new generation of boaters... and as a Christmas stocking filler for those more seasoned...

Pleased for you that she is sold Haydn but undoubtedly a sad day. As you rightly say, you did more cruising with MF than most will do in a lifetime and I have enjoyed your tales over the years. You must have some great memories.

sold my barge some years ago, trying to talk Haydn in to having a shortish barge (Haydn doesn't like narrowboats) on the Lancaster canal, 20 minutes away from home to the main marina. The social life would be fun. Henry is fine after a night on the tiles, the urrm patio tiles, he is in and out through his dog flap, we're never sure where he is. Saw him asleep with the dog flap shut, he was that mad thought he was going to bite me.

Sadly the entertainment has disappeared from here. Due to to facts I think.

One,/ it's now nearly impossible to go anywhere except marina to marina,
Most folk just return to there own marina. The costs are understandable.

However it was far more fun just tying up to the nearest fishing boat and crossing the raft. Only to be a
wakend soon the next morning.


Boating round Ireland years ago was great fun, Nearly no harbour charges, and moorings were mostly free, but you did need a few long ropes.

Think it only marinas now.

Now diesel is somthing like £7.50 a gallon, no on is going anywhere.

Your going to make me cry now. What a super girl, never miffed with an F 8 up her arse, still did 20 odd knots, no worries. Over falls never seemed that big a deal, she just mostly bashed through them, that's including the Alderney races.

She seemed to have a superb ability, of digging her self in the water if things got really bad, I even wondered if she'd become a submarine at times.

But perhaps her greatest gift, was superb handling. I nearly never used the wheel. Just auto pilot from A to B then engines into a marina or where ever.

She was always totally predictable.

In many ways I wish I had her back, but it was never anything to do with money, just that the legs and back dont work right anymore.

Mind, since I've stopped using her, I've just invested 10 grand in ISA's, a thing I've not done in the last ten or more years.
