So, when buying a boat you have the SA/D ration, and the AVS, etc, to determine the boats suitability for use,,,

But I think that the manufacturers are missing something.

We, (That is SWMBO and Dog) have just returned from 17 days on board our 31', and sitting in the pub we both came to the conclusion that this was the Maximum Time On Board for two people on this lenght of boat...

So shouldnt their be a formula to determine how long a person, or couple , or family, can spend on a particular boat before Cabin Fever/ Insanity sets in?

Could this be a combo of Waterline lenght, displacment, berths, beam, etc/ number of people on board.

Ie; 31'x10' / 2 =15.5 days?

Should their be regional variations. (Ie their is a mulitplier for use in the med/ uk?)

Comments and suggestions please.

Just returned from 26 nights aboard. Raring to go again - if only we could!

Not even the finest mathematicians can come up with a formula to gauge a person's temperment - everybody is very different and unique in their own special way!
I know a couple who went around the world with two kids on a 25' yacht very happily - and I also know couples with no kids for whom a 40' yacht is too small for a holiday....

[/ QUOTE ] tell us about it? How much too long did you suffer? Are there obvious injuries?

It was the Dog that decided the MTOB. He couldnt take any more and anytime he went in the Dink we had to restrain him from throwing himself OB. (KILL MEEE)

Maybe that should be in the Forumla as well.......a Pet Factor.

I mean, if Nasa can come up with a forumla that tells us how many different civilizations are out their in the known galaxy right now (I kid you not, the answer is like ....15) Surely the forumites can come up with a interesting formula for MTOB, all things considered...

If someone would kindly pay us enough to be able to afford to take more than 2 weeks off work at one time so we can spend more than 17 days onboard together, we'll test the theory for you! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We've done 13 days quite happily on our 26' boat including small dog and most of that was in the pouring rain, involving mad dashes ashore in the dinghy so we could all stretch our legs. Have to say though it would have been a nightmare without the cockpit cover which massively increases the available space to get out of each other's way. Hence one of the reasons we will buy a catamaran for cruising round the world, rather than a monohull....
