Moving to Temple this year

Harbour master really nice, security naff, quite a few boats broken into a year or to ago, owners not bothered whether it is a marina with 5 boats or 50, it was a well known fact that when they bought the place they did not want any boats.

Gosh. you guys need to get on your boats and cheer up a bit. Thames forum gone all negative.

Boatone - I guess there is a provision charge then by usage.

Jeeeezzz (again)

Having worked at Harleyford years ago, I had many customers who kept their boat at Harleyford and many others (inc my Uncle) who kept them at Temple. Both were (and are) stunning locations, Temple far quieter, Harleyford a few more bells and whistles.

Now Harleyford has far more log cabins and golf courses and if I were to own a boat in that stretch (and I do mean I, not the view of IPC) I think I would go Temple.

What ever way you look at it the queue for both locks can be hell in the summer!

I have to say that matches my experience. We liked Harleyford and the staff but the marina is very tight and it is a big place - some of the residents (and I do mean residents as they often never move their boats - but are happy to comment on others doing so...) are not the most welcoming. Bray has been nice but is not on the ideal part of the river from our point of view and again is very large. We are looking for a smaller, more private marina closer to home. Temple seems to hit the right points for us.

We will see how it goes but the mooring charge is a small part of the cost of owning our boat and being able to walk to it from home is a big plus.

Gordon Bennett -

and being able to walk to it from home is a big plus.

I'd say!
What an understatement,
Having to trek some 80 miles and on our wonderful (!) motorways completely spoils it for us (until we get to the mooring that is).

Following the example of some other members on here we are moving to Temple Marina this year. Looking forward to being closer to home. Lovely place.

I have no experience of Temple Marina other than seeing it from Harleyford where we were berthed for the last three years, but in my opinion these marinas are ideally located for enjoying some of the best parts of the Upper Thames in a weekend.
As for the lock queues, I don't think we ever had any more than five boats in front of us at any time whilst using Temple or Hurley locks in the last three years. We did however, tend to leave Harleyford as soon after 9.00 AM as possible on Saturdays and more often than not, moored at Medmenham late Sunday afternoon and waited until the lock keeper knocked off. A glass of beer whilst watching everyone else race to the lock was always a nice way to round of a weekend.

As Temple is close to your home, I'm sure a late return would reduce the queues considerably.
Above all else, Hope you enjoy it.

Hi Guys I have resurfaced

Been off the forum for a while setting up a new business, so catching up now on all the gossip.

As you know wemoved to temple at the begining of last year, we viewed Harleyford but for us it was too big and we did not like the berths offered at the time. The cost was comparable with Temple, infact I remember Harleyford was a little more after we added all the electricity prices in etc.

The increase in Electricity at Temple is because they have been undercharging previously. I was surprised at the increase in the mooring fee but have stomached it as we love the peace and quiet of the place. Colin is the most helpful guy in the world and we have found the owners to be very friendly. Plenty of open space to sit and relax with a drink, well kept facilities etc. We have had no issues with security so far. Both my wife and I love Henley and Marlow so for us it is perfectly placed.

Can't wait to get back out on the river, was hoping as this was our first winter with Tristan in the water that we would have got more use but the weather urggh.

See you all soon

Nick
