I'm thinking of broadening my horizons, and moving my boat from the UK to a US marina to use as a base for exploring, say, the Chesapeake for a few years (I would remain resident in UK, and travel to US for a couple of months at a time). Does anyone have any experience of this. Would getting insurance and banking facilities over there be difficult without a 'fixed address'. Are there ways of getting round any problems? Any advice gratefully received.

Have been doing it for last four years. I am based here www.zahnisers.com feel free to pm me and we can swop numbers and chat. Depending on how keen you are to do an atlantic crossing you may better off to buy a boat in the US.

Nautibusby has also been doing this. It's been very successful for us - and it is certainly much cheaper than sailing in the UK - especially the Solent. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
