Reported to be a V58 based in Port Solent. Won’t name it just in case, but the AIS was in the right place

No. I’ve no suggestion that this is anything other than a coincidence.

One of the local news websites names the boat as Peroni.

It was a smashing November day to be out on the water.

Thankfully nobody hurt.

I was out Saturday a few miles away from the scene but seeing the considerable amount of smoke. The boat was indeed 'Peroni'.

It sank in the end. We were walking on Tennyson Down and could see the smoke. As it looked, from there, to be land based, it didn’t occur to me to look at AIS. The smoke must have been massive to be seen over St Cats like that.

I was sailing from Chi to Portsmouth and saw the smoke. I wasn't quite sure what I was seeing and certainly wouldn't have expected a smallish boat. Glad to have my curiosity satisfied.
