Motor Boats Monthly update

Since the new format came out I had started buying it again every month. Sad to see the new format is being stopped. It had taken on its own distinct identity from MBY following the changes.

Gutted Gutted Gutted, have been a regular subscriber for over 5 years.

Really like the new format, the editorial staff have listened to what the readers want with the "How To" features.

SWMBO has just purchased a years subscription for me so not sure where we stand with a refund or alternative publication.

Allways looked forward to coming home and finding the new edition on the floor.

Hope the staff can find suitable employment and many thanks for all of the great articles over the years

Agree with the above. I've now seen this happen 3-4 times with various magazines. Suddenly key staff leave followed shortly later by an announcement of closure after a new team have not even sat down and opened their inbox. Pretty wrong/sick really. Bosses would have known this months ago. Dare I suggest so did the previous editor...

I subscribe to MBM and occasionally buy MBY. I would miss MBM a whole lot more and the new format is really quite interesting.

IPC - You are making a mistake.

If they do, I'm gone. I'm sure I won't be alone.

Don't get me wrong - as a mobo owner, I like PBO, which I buy more regularly than MBM. As someone at the pond life end of the motorboating scale however, I find a lot of the DIY stuff useful. I'll be sorry to see MBM go (and sorry for their staff), but much of it is out of my league. I just think that Practical Boat Owner is a misnomer, and it could cover the practical stuff for both communities, as its name suggests. There's YM for the yotties, and MB and Y - I'm not sure how the segmentation is supposed to work. At the outrageous price these mags cost here in €, one a month is enough...!

A geat shame as I always enjoyed it and the seamanship type articles were great as memory joggers. MBY never did it for me as they covered boats way out of reach.
I bought a box of old ( mid 2000 ) PBO mags when they ostensibly cobered mobos. They are a very good read but the mobo stuff was weak but boaty stuff is boaty stuff regardless of whether it has sails or not.
I look forward to hearing IPC's plans for my subscription.....

Blimey, away on the boat for a week and just logged on to hear this news. Very sad for the employees and for the readership. I have subscribed for years and will miss the monthly fix, particularly during the winter months. MBY certainly won't be a replacement in its current guise.....good for an occasional read but absolutely nothing to do with our kind of boating.

Likewise, always a difficult time for staff and employees.

Like most of the comments I must admit I enjoyed the New Look mag and was going to subscribe, which is an interesting point, the subscriptions are still available on line.

very sad, having been a subscriber for many years, I can't help but agree with Deleted User and others. The mag had lost it's way recently and become a version of MBY BUT the last couple of issues have been a whole new ballgame and really very much improved... was looking forward to the trend continuing, alas it's not to be. A great shame.

Agreed, but surely MBY will simply take on the kind of lower budget features and boat tests that MBM was so good at in addition to what they are doing now rather than just throw away the readership and advertisers MBM attracted?

They have a golden opportunity to create a sort of super boat magazine with more features, more advertising and more readership I'd have thought.

Totally agree. Bizarre timing to go to all that effort and then just can it.

Agree with many of the above. The new format is excellent and popular, but I guess the bean counters have a different perspective.
IPC should have the courtesy to communicate to subscribers immediately with details of what will happen regarding their remaining term, and options going forward.

And they will however someone "broke " the news on here almost immediately.

There will be full communication to all subscribers.
