Hi

Can anyone advise a newcomer here as to what size motorboat would
be suitable for going from Liverpool to Dublin ?

Just wanting to know so I can know if this capability is outside
my budget !

Would a 30ish ft motorboat do the job ? Or would I need a bigger boat ?
Would it need to be A rated Ocean going for this type of journey ?

Many Thanks in advance.

30ft on a 130nm trip on the Irish Sea is no problem as long as you pick the right weather. During settled weather the Irish sea is tame and has little swell unlike the west coast of Ireland. The passage across itself is boring, but plenty to sea once you get across to the east coast of Ireland. Poolbeg YC in the heart of Dublin worth a night or two's visit. Big marinas in Dun Laoghaire and Malahide, but just my personal taste is they are white zoos, but still worth a short visit especially Dun Laoghaire as it's 24x7 access unlike Malahide which has a tidal restriction due the bar on the estuary.

Thanks a million Guys !

So you would not recommend a 30ft boat for the west coast of Ireland ?

Ideally, I would like to go to east coast of Ireland, but also around to
the Donegal coastline as well as the Western Islands of Scotland.

Woud a 30ft boat handle these locations OK ?

What about a 42ft Tecnomarine with a planing hull ?

Your help is very much appreciated !!

Hi firstly I would strongly advice you get some training a day skippers course to start with.once you have your ticket you will have no need to ask what size boat you need safety safety safety all the time

I always wonder about people who ask an excited question about something and are never heard from again. I wonder if they read the answers? I wonder if he bought a boat?
